Lipid droplets and their interactions with other organelles in liver diseases

نویسندگان

چکیده

Lipid droplets are cellular organelles used for lipid storage with a hydrophobic core of neutral lipids enclosed by phospholipid monolayer. Besides presenting as giant single in fat tissue, also widely present multitude small structures hepatocytes, where they play key roles health and disease the liver. In addition to storage, directly involved metabolism, membrane biosynthesis, cell signaling, inflammation, pathogen-host interaction cancer development. addition, interact other regulate biology. It is fair say that exact functions physiology remain largely obscure. Thus prompted, here we aim analyze corpus contemporary biomedical literature create framework how role hepatocyte pathophysiology should be understood. The resulting help understanding important liver diseases, including fatty disease, viral hepatitis direct further research directions.

Viral Infections and their Role in Autoimmune Diseases, with Emphasis on Mechanisms and Molecular Interactions

Introduction: The exact cause of most autoimmune diseases is still unknown; however, several factors play a role in causing or exacerbating autoimmune reactions. In addition to environmental factors such as bacterial, parasitic, fungal and viral infections, factors such as genetic characteristics and lifestyle are also included. Infections caused by viruses usually trigger a strong immune respo...

Deciphering the contribution of lipid droplets in leprosy: multifunctional organelles with roles in Mycobacterium leprae pathogenesis.

Leprosy is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae that affects the skin and nerves, presenting a singular clinical picture. Across the leprosy spectrum, lepromatous leprosy (LL) exhibits a classical hallmark: the presence of a collection of M. leprae-infected foamy macrophages/Schwann cells characterised by their high lipid content. The significance of this foamy aspect in mycobac...

Lipid droplets: FSP27 knockout enhances their sizzle.

Fat-specific protein of 27 kDa (FSP27) is a highly expressed adipocyte protein that promotes triglyceride accumulation within lipid droplets. In this issue of the JCI, Nishino et al. show that FSP27 also helps to maintain the characteristically large unilocular lipid droplet structure within each white adipocyte (see the related article beginning on page 2808). Fragmentation of lipid droplets i...
